Hi! I’m Noor Shawkat

Dedicated Medical Laboratory Technologist with 10 Years of Experience!

Welcome to my e-Portfolio!

I created this e-Portfolio to share the milestones of my journey as a Medical Laboratory Technologist and a graduate student in the Master of Health Studies program. Here, I combine hands-on lab experience with new perspectives on healthcare leadership. This space is not just a record of what I have accomplished, but it is also a place to reflect on lessons learned, share resources, and explore how laboratory medicine contributes to patient care in Canada. As you explore, I hope you will get a sense not only of what I do, but why I am passionate about the future of our profession.

About Me

My name is Noor Shawkat, and I am a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) in Ontario with almost ten years of experience in both public and private healthcare settings. I specialize in biochemistry, hematology, and transfusion medicine, with a year of experience in pathology and some experience in microbiology. In all these areas, I work to ensure accurate test results are delivered, uphold quality practices, and contribute to patient safety.

One of the most meaningful experiences in my career was teaching Transfusion Medicine for one semester as a lecturer and lab instructor. This privilege was deeply meaningful to me because I believe the future of healthcare depends on well-prepared, knowledgeable Medical Laboratory Technologists, especially in our current time where we face staff shortages. Supporting students especially at times when health care faces staff shortages allowed me to share not only technical skills but also the values of accuracy, ethics, and accountability that are essential in our field because their contributions will continue to shape patient care and strengthen the healthcare system.

I am currently pursuing a Master of Health Studies at Athabasca University to expand my leadership and policy knowledge. My professional values center on reliability, integrity, and mentorship, and I aim to combine my clinical expertise with strategic leadership to strengthen the role of laboratory medicine in the Canadian healthcare system.
